Thesis
Vale is one of the world's largest miners. Iron ore is the cash engine, but the critical-minerals angle is its Base Metals unit: nickel and copper that feed batteries, grids, and the broader electrification build-out. Low-cost orebodies and enormous scale are the moat, and a standalone Base Metals structure has been positioned to attract capital and partners for that growth.
The offsets are what keep quality moderate: concentration in iron ore and its price cycle, Brazil country and currency risk, and the lingering financial and reputational liabilities from the Brumadinho and Mariana dam disasters. Execution on the base-metals ramp is the swing factor for the critical-minerals thesis.
