Thesis

onsemi is one of the largest power-semiconductor makers and a leader in silicon carbide (EliteSiC), with vertical integration from substrate to device. Its power and sensing content rides three structural demands at once: electric vehicles and industrial electrification, and — increasingly — the power conversion feeding AI data centers. Unlike the speculative small-caps in this theme, it is a profitable, multi-billion-dollar franchise that anchors the wide-bandgap story.

The case is durable share in SiC and power as those markets scale. The offsets are cyclical: the auto and industrial end-markets that drive most of its revenue have been soft (the EV slowdown pressured SiC demand and margins), so the near term hinges on inventory normalization and the timing of the SiC ramp.

Catalysts

  • SiC (EliteSiC) design wins and revenue ramp
  • Automotive / industrial inventory and demand recovery
  • AI data-center power content
  • Gross-margin trajectory through the cycle
